STANDARD CASE

Before you compare

You are reviewing FUND-A’s account-level trade bookings with BROKER-N. All records are active, version 1, in USD, with trade date 15 September and intended settlement 16 September 2026.

  1. Pair by reference. Account, broker and trade date are constant. Each shared reference identifies one execution allocated to this fund. Local source IDs and creation times need not agree.
  2. Compare the details. Check security, side, quantity and price. Multiple records for one reference need a group review; do not ignore an extra row.
  3. Use the stated units. Quantities are positive whole shares. BUY and SELL are from the fund’s perspective. Prices have four decimal places; compare exact values.
  4. Check gross consideration. Multiply quantity by price, then round once to cents, half up. Gross is positive for buys and sells. Fees and net cash are outside scope.
  5. Record observations, not assumptions. A difference alone does not establish which source is wrong. Grouping does not prove affirmation or settlement.
Practice example

Two records with different local IDs but the same reference, BUY 10 at $12.3450, each with gross $123.45, are consistent when their remaining fields agree.

Both extracts show records present at 15:00 ET; an execution may still be unbooked. Investigate exceptions using the verified execution evidence. If terms are unavailable, keep the break open and request evidence through the reviewer, broker support and dealing desk. Corrections require reviewer approval, controlled processing and a refreshed comparison. Before replaying a missing booking, repair the mapping and check for intervening bookings. For a duplicate, retain the original and reverse only the extra entry.
